Beautiful Switzerland

Located in western Europe is the magnificent country of Switzerland, which is extremely famous for its chocolate, baking system, watches, cheese, and Alpine mountain areas. The official name for Switzerland is Confoederatio Helvetica which means “Swiss Confederation”[1].

While Bern is the capital, Zurich is the biggest city in the country, massive in scale. Switzerland has been a neutral country or over five hundred years. Many rivers run through Switzerland to converge in one of the country’s many lakes. Eighty percent of Switzerland’s fresh water comes from these lakes and other natural sources[2]. Switzerland is home to the Alpine mountains and includes over two hundred peaks, some reaching over three thousand meters in height. The Swiss Alps are famous for skiing and people travel from all over the world for a chance to ski in Switzerland. Other famous sports enjoyed there are snowboarding and mountaineering. Apart from a time when Napoleon’s France occupied Switzerland from 1798-1850, Switzerland has been an independent country since the year 1499.

Switzerland’s flag is one of only two countries with a square flag. The flag is red with a white cross in the center of it. Switzerland is a beautiful country where anyone could find something enjoyable to do there. If you ever travel to western Europe Switzerland should be on your list of must-see places.
